How Celebrities Invest in Property

Many of the actors and celebrities we know and love channel their generous earnings into property investment. Let’s check out two notable property investors from the wonderful world of showbiz and their impressive rental property portfolios: Rupert Grint and Oprah Winfrey.

How much is Rupert Grint’s property empire worth?

Made famous by his Ron Weasley role in the Harry Potter franchise, Rupert Grint is a veritable property investment wizard. The 31-year-old has an investment property portfolio worth a tidy sum of £24 million ($46m NZD).

Now a father of one, Grint owns three property investment businesses — including Eevil Plan Properties — and specialises in buying high-end residential rental properties in the United Kingdom.

The Harry Potter actor is said to be a shrewd investor who’s been well and truly bitten by the property bug. Not putting all his eggs in one basket, Grint maintains a varied portfolio to secure his rental income for the long-term.

What properties does Oprah Winfrey own?

Oprah Winfrey is potentially the most well-known woman in the world, and with an estimated net worth of circa $3 billion USD, she’s in another category of property investing to Grint. Details around which, if any, of her various real estate holdings are rented are few and far between. It appears Winfrey and potentially family members occupy her homes themselves at different times of the year.

What is known is that the former television host turned media mogul has been buying and selling properties since the 1990s, her current portfolio consisting of all multi-million-dollar titles.

The jewel in Winfrey’s real estate crown is The Promised Land, an amassed selection of buildings and land totalling nearly 70-acres in the exclusive California coastal community of Montecito. The original 3,163 sqm home she purchased there in 2001 set her back $50 million and is complete with six bedrooms and 14 bathrooms.

Winfrey knows how to invest in seasonal properties too, with her portfolio boasting hundreds of acres and multiple buildings in Hawaii, and a $10.8 million high-altitude winter getaway in Mountain Village, Colorado — with functioning funicular and direct ski trail access to world-renowned ski resort, Telluride.
